Johnson County extends data center moratorium until Aug. 2027
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to extend the county’s temporary data center moratorium until August 8, 2027. The extension will give county staff more time to study potential regulations addressing issues including water use, natural features and road impacts.
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors unanimously extended the county’s temporary moratorium on data center development until Aug. 8, 2027. The pause had been scheduled to expire in November.
The extension allows the Johnson County Planning and Development Department to continue researching data center regulations and drafting a possible ordinance. Planner Joe Wilensky said the review will consider preservation of natural features, water usage and impacts on roads, while Planning and Development Department representative Nate Mueller said the extension followed earlier direction from the board to study potential rules.
