Paxton says a Brazos County data center got a letter demanding water-use reporting
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office says it sent a water-use reporting demand to a data center development in Brazos County, but the identity of the recipient remains unknown. The Reveille AI Compute Center at the RELLIS Campus said it did not receive the letter, while the state has paused new data center permits as officials review the industry’s water and power impacts.
Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said it sent 156 letters to data center developments in 32 Texas counties, demanding accurate water-use information that had not been reported to the Texas Water Development Board. Brazos County was included, but the office has not identified the recipient or provided KBTX with a copy of the letter.
The Reveille AI Compute Center, under construction at the RELLIS Campus, is the only new data center development KBTX has identified in Brazos County. CEO Stephan Fabel said the project did not receive a letter. The letters come as Gov. Greg Abbott directs state agencies to halt new data center permits while they assess pressure on Texas water and electricity supplies. The pause has not stopped construction at RELLIS or Terafab’s chip-manufacturing project in neighboring Grimes County, whose officials classify it as a manufacturing facility despite plans for an associated data center.
