Neighbors divided over White Cloud zoning proposal
Residents of White Cloud Township in Nodaway County are divided over a proposal that would authorize the township board to establish zoning ordinances. The measure, which will appear on the November ballot, is being discussed partly in response to proposed data center development, including the White Cloud Acres project.
A community meeting in Graham focused on a November ballot proposal that would allow the White Cloud Township board to create zoning ordinances. Township trustee Tim Lance said zoning could give residents more influence over future industrial and data center projects, although it would not stop the existing White Cloud Acres proposal.
The proposal has exposed divisions among residents. Supporters cited concerns about data centers and industrial development near farms, while opponents, including Mike Rosenbohm and Bruce Skoglund, warned that creating a zoning board without a detailed framework could lead to government overreach and restrict property rights. The Nodaway County Commission is separately considering countywide zoning and is forming an advisory committee to study the issue.
