Meta funds skilled trades jobs program for AI data center buildout
Meta is investing $115 million into America's Workforce Academy, a new cost-free training program for data center technician jobs. This program guarantees job offers to graduates and aims to support Meta's extensive AI data center buildout across the United States. The investment is part of Meta's larger $600 billion pledge for U.S. infrastructure and jobs over the next three years.
Meta has announced a $115 million investment to establish America's Workforce Academy, a new training program designed to prepare individuals for data center technician roles. The program, which will be cost-free for participants, guarantees job offers to graduates, supporting Meta's ambitious buildout of AI-powered data centers across the United States.
A Meta spokesperson indicated that the program will provide generalist training, with jobs primarily available as full-time positions with general contractors working on Meta's data center construction. The Associated Builders and Contractors, a trade group, anticipates training thousands of people through the initiative.
This investment is a component of Meta's broader commitment of $600 billion towards U.S. infrastructure and jobs over the next three years, aimed at bolstering the company's AI capabilities. While data centers are noted for creating numerous short-term construction jobs—such as the projected 1,800 peak workers at a Texas Meta data center or 1,000 at an Oklahoma site—they typically lead to a smaller number of permanent operational jobs, estimated around 100 for each facility.
