The Metro Council is scheduled to hold a final vote on Tuesday regarding proposed data center regulations. These regulations include a bill to establish a temporary moratorium on data center development permits within Davidson County, and another bill that would restrict where data centers can be constructed, their maximum size, and operational guidelines.
These legislative efforts have been significantly spurred by a proposed data center project situated next to the Nashville Zoo. The development has faced substantial public opposition, with over half a million individuals signing a petition against it. Despite the ongoing legislative process, the Davidson County Register of Deeds has confirmed that the developer, DC BLOX, has officially acquired the land for $23 million.
However, the mayor's office maintains its objective to utilize the property for Metro services through eminent domain, a process that Metro legal advisors believe will not be impacted by the recent land sale. The mayor's office issued a statement reiterating their unchanged goal and expressing anticipation for the final passage of the zoning and moratorium bills concerning data centers.
