St. Louis city leaders are preparing to consider new regulations for data centers, requiring annual reports on energy, water, e-waste, and noise for facilities over 5,000 square feet. These proposed rules would also include daily fines and potential operating permit loss for violations. The Board of Aldermen is also working to finalize the city's budget.

St. Louis city officials, including the Board of Aldermen, are poised to address a significant city budget proposal and a separate measure introducing new oversight rules for data centers. The proposed budget, totaling over $1.4 billion, includes a $637 million general fund and allocations for public health, safety, and addressing derelict buildings. A contentious aspect within the budget is the proposed pay raises for police command staff, which Mayor Cara Spencer has flagged as a potential budget complication and a trigger for further raises within the fire department.

The Board of Aldermen is also scheduled to discuss a proposal requiring data centers larger than 5,000 square feet to submit annual reports detailing energy consumption, water use, electronic waste, and noise levels. This information would subsequently be made public by the city. Non-compliance with these regulations could lead to daily fines of up to $500 or the revocation of operating permits. These discussions are set to continue as the new fiscal year approaches.
