Pulaski County moves to pause data center projects
The Pulaski County Quorum Court advanced a proposal for a temporary pause on future data center developments, but it was a less restrictive version than desired by community members. Residents expressed concerns over noise, water, and power demands from data centers. The ordinance will proceed to the full Quorum Court for consideration on July 23rd.
The Pulaski County Quorum Court in central Arkansas has moved closer to enacting a temporary moratorium on future data center development. During a recent meeting, community members advocated for a stricter moratorium that would halt an already approved data center project, citing concerns about transparency, noise, water usage, and power demands.
However, the justices advanced a less restrictive proposal. This allows the existing project to proceed while imposing limits on future developments. Opponents voiced disappointment that the watered-down ordinance would not provide sufficient protection. The proposed ordinance is slated for consideration by the full Quorum Court on July 23rd.
