Versailles City Council approves data center moratorium through end of year
The Versailles City Council has approved a moratorium on data center development within the city until December 31. This action allows the city government and Planning Commission time to review and potentially amend existing ordinances related to data centers. The resolution was modeled after a similar measure adopted by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council.
The Versailles City Council in Kentucky unanimously voted on Tuesday night to approve a resolution establishing a moratorium on data center development within the city limits, effective through December 31. Versailles Mayor Laura Dake announced the decision via a Facebook post, expressing satisfaction with the council's swift action.
According to Mayor Dake, the primary purpose of the moratorium is to provide the city government and the Planning Commission with sufficient time to review, consider, and, if deemed necessary, amend existing ordinances pertaining to data centers in Versailles. She noted that the resolution was based on a similar measure recently approved by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council.
The city intends to make the full text of the approved resolution publicly available on its website the following morning. The moratorium signifies a proactive approach by Versailles officials to address the implications of data center development and ensure appropriate regulatory frameworks are in place.
