Shadowbox Studios is appealing DeKalb County's decision to reject its application to convert a 155-acre film studio property in Southwest DeKalb into a data center. The county cited an existing moratorium on new data centers as the reason for not processing the application.
Shadowbox Studios contends that county officials had previously provided written assurances three times in 2023 that the data center project could proceed. The company asserts it relied on these assurances and invested tens of millions of dollars in moving forward with the project. However, the county maintains that these communications were not legally binding.
A hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, where Shadowbox will ask the zoning board to overturn the rejection. Community members will also have an opportunity to speak on the matter. Additionally, Shadowbox Studios is currently suing DeKalb County over the data center moratorium.
