Russell trustee proposes zoning concerning data centers
A Russell Township trustee is proposing a zoning amendment to establish standards for potential data center development before any application is filed. The proposal would address impacts on private wells, septic systems, water resources, environmentally sensitive areas and the township’s semi-rural character.
Russell Township Trustee Amy Heutmaker is proposing a zoning amendment to prepare for possible data center development in the Geauga County community. She said smaller, industry-specific facilities, including healthcare-related data centers, could eventually be proposed even though the township lacks the infrastructure for a medium- or large-scale campus.
The draft amendment would address private wells, individual sewage treatment systems, watershed protection and other land-use concerns. Russell Township’s assistant prosecuting attorney must review the proposal before it can advance to the trustees for consideration.
