The group is expected to review zoning definitions, application requirements and conditional-use permit standards before recommending possible zoning text amendments by the end of the year.
Minnehaha County officials are creating a task force to help establish a transparent process for reviewing data center proposals. The group will examine terminology, commercial and industrial classifications, application requirements and standards of review for potential conditional-use permits.
Commissioner Joe Kippley said the task force, assembled by Planning and Zoning Committee Chair Bonnie Duffy, is expected to meet during October and November and report back by the end of the calendar year. County Commission Chair Dean Karsky said clearer information and standards could address public misconceptions and remove obstacles to future data center development.
