Savannah River Site to Host 1-Gigawatt Data Center
The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Amentum to develop a 1-gigawatt data center at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. The project will also include 2 gigawatts of on-site energy generation, transitioning from natural gas to nuclear power.
The federal government has tapped engineering company Amentum to construct a significant new data center at the Savannah River Site in southwest South Carolina. This strategic development will feature a 1-gigawatt data center facility.
In addition to the data center, the project includes the implementation of two gigawatts of on-site energy generation. This energy strategy will initially utilize natural gas as a power source, with plans to transition to nuclear power over time, underscoring a long-term shift towards cleaner energy for the federal site's new infrastructure.
