Cleveland.com fact-checks Ramaswamy ad about Acton’s Ohio data center investments
The video fact-checks Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign ad alleging Amy Acton was hypocritical about data centers because of her investments in technology companies. It says Acton's disclosed Microsoft holdings did not establish direct investment in specific data centers, while Microsoft's planned Ohio facilities include projects in New Albany, Heath and Hebron.
Cleveland.com examines four claims in Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's attack ad against Democratic opponent Amy Acton. The ad portrays Acton as a critic of data centers who invested in companies operating them, but the video says it misrepresented an Acton speech, relied on earlier financial disclosures and offered no evidence that her investments influenced her policy positions.
Acton's disclosure included Microsoft shares, and Microsoft has confirmed planned data center projects in New Albany, Heath and Hebron that are expected to be operational by the end of 2029. The video notes that the ad conflated planned and operating facilities and did not show that Acton invested directly in any of them. It also points out that a News 5 Cleveland investigation documented Ramaswamy's own holdings in Microsoft, Amazon and Nvidia, while Acton said she sold her individual stocks in April and would not own individual stocks as governor.
