A new poll conducted by the University of Texas' Texas Politics Project reveals that a majority of Texans oppose the presence of data centers in their communities. The survey, which comes as Texas has become the top destination for data center development, found that 43% of Republicans and over 60% of Democrats expressed opposition.

James Henson, director of the polling center, noted that objections stem from various concerns, including environmental impacts related to water and resource use, as well as the general effects these facilities have on residents' lives. Despite the state's growth as a hub for data centers supporting artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency mining, public sentiment appears to be shifting.

In light of these findings, Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have announced that the regulation of data centers will be a legislative priority during next year's session, indicating potential future policy changes to address public concerns.
