Northport Council Rejects Data Center Moratorium, Considers New Zoning Approach

The Northport City Council in West Alabama has decided against implementing a complete moratorium on data center development, following renewed discussions on how the city will regulate such projects. During a recent meeting, city leaders voted down the proposed moratorium, instead signaling a preference for an alternative strategy.
Northport City Administrator Tera Tubbs confirmed that no data center developers have contacted city officials thus far. The council intends to explore the creation of a specific zoning district dedicated to data centers, aiming to establish greater control over the location and method of these facilities' development within Northport. The meeting also included progress on plans for a new City Hall and approval to investigate holding a music festival next spring.
