Possible data center near Beloit raises concerns in the community

A Facebook group called 'No Beloit Data Center' was created a week ago to protest a possible data center coming to the Town of Beloit, Wisconsin. The community gathered at the Beloit Public Library to discuss what a data center is and how it could affect the environment and residents. Town administrators say they are in the early stages and no applications, site plans, or proposals have been submitted yet. However, the town did enter into a pre-development agreement in July with Cambrin LLC to allow the developer to conduct studies and explore the possibility of developing a data center on a 430-acre site owned by Rock Road Companies. Local environmental advocates, like Brittnay Keyes from Healthy Climate Wisconsin, expressed concerns about the potential impacts of a large data center on air quality, water usage, and energy demands. Beloit residents like Lisette Montero voiced concerns about the health and environmental effects, though they acknowledged data centers are a necessary part of modern technology. The community group 'No Beloit Data Center' is calling for more transparency and communication from local leaders as the project progresses.
