The East Hanover Township supervisors received an update from the township's planning commission on its ongoing work to develop a data center zoning ordinance. During the May 26 meeting, no formal action was taken on the matter.

Marvin Smith, chairman of the East Hanover Township Planning Commission, informed the supervisors that the commission is actively reviewing examples and model language for data center zoning regulations. He noted that new information on data center related language is frequently emerging.

Smith indicated that the planning commission intends to present a new memo to the supervisors at their next meeting. This memo will propose an interim step to officially incorporate data centers into the township's zoning regulations, even as the commission continues to refine further details. Specific concerns being addressed in the ordinance include water usage and noise parameters, topics which Smith mentioned are also being considered by the state Legislature in various bills.
