Pawhuska city leaders are in the early stages of evaluating a proposal for a small-scale data center. The developer plans to purchase and convert a large warehouse on the east side of town into a data storage facility. City Manager Carol Jones noted the project's potential to generate revenue for infrastructure improvements, although it is expected to create only a small number of long-term jobs after construction.
A key consideration for city officials is ensuring the local utility can support the facility's requested 10 megawatts of electricity while continuing to serve citizens. Water infrastructure needs are also being assessed. Jones emphasized that the proposal has not yet been approved, and any decision made by the council will prioritize the community's best interest.
A public hearing is planned in the coming weeks to allow community members to voice concerns and ask questions before final decisions are made on the project.
