Companies behind Port Washington data centers meet with neighbors
Three companies involved in the $15 billion Project Lighthouse data center in Port Washington, Wisconsin, held an open house to directly address community concerns. Neighbors expressed significant issues with construction noise and dust from the 2.5 million square foot facility. The project, expected to open in 2028, will create 1,000 permanent jobs.
Executives from Vantage Data Centers, Oracle, and OpenAI met with Port Washington residents at an open house to discuss the "Project Lighthouse" data center. The $15 billion project, spanning 2.5 million square feet just west of Interstate 43, is expected to be completed in 2028 and create 1,000 permanent jobs.
Neighbors, like Marj Sontag, voiced significant concerns about the impact of the ongoing construction, citing excessive noise and dust that prevent them from opening windows. She expressed worries about the long-term liveability and property value of her home.
Company representatives, including Misty Allen, Vantage Vice President of Public Policy, and Beatrice Fullen, Oracle Vice President of Community Engagement, emphasized their commitment to being good neighbors and part of the community. They highlighted contributions such as a $250,000 donation to a local education foundation and offering free car washes to address dust issues, although some residents felt these efforts were an attempt to "buy loyalty."
