Google has officially been announced as the company behind a $500 million data center project in the Lima, Ohio area. The project, previously referred to as "Project Busk", will span over 200 acres in American and Sugar Creek townships. The data center is expected to support everyday technology for personal electronics, hospitals, and businesses. It will become Google's third data center in Ohio. Local economic leaders say the project could bring widespread economic benefits, including thousands of construction jobs as well as ongoing employment and business for hotels, restaurants, and stores in the Lima-Allen County region. The project is currently awaiting a decision from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency on a draft air permit for generators at the site, which would allow for 115 diesel fuel generators, emergency fire pumps, cooling towers, and fuel storage tanks. The public comment period for this permit ends on Wednesday.
