Hayward halts new data center proposals as concerns mount over resource demands
The Hayward City Council unanimously approved a moratorium on new data center proposals amid community concerns about resource demands. The action followed opposition to the city’s May 2025 approval of Stack Infrastructure’s 310,000-square-foot SVY03A data center on Eden Landing Road.
The Hayward City Council unanimously approved a moratorium Tuesday halting new data center proposals in the city. The decision came after growing community concern about the resource demands associated with large-scale data centers.
Residents’ objections were fueled in part by the council’s May 2025 approval of Stack Infrastructure’s 310,000-square-foot SVY03A facility on Eden Landing Road in Hayward’s west-side industrial area. The moratorium pauses consideration of additional proposals while concerns about future development are addressed.
