Silver City OKs data center moratorium as resolution
The Silver City Town Council unanimously approved a resolution temporarily suspending permits for data center facilities within the town. Councilor Angela Salaiz said the resolution was chosen instead of an ordinance as an interim measure, with an ordinance possible later.
The Silver City Town Council unanimously approved a resolution placing a temporary suspension on the issuance of permits for data center facilities in the town. Councilor Angela Salaiz said Town Attorney Charles Kretek, former acting Town Manager Jacqui Olea and interim Town Manager Milo Lambert advised using a resolution for the time being, with a formal ordinance potentially considered later.
The data center action was part of a broader council meeting that also included postponement of a memorandum of understanding with the Silver City Museum Society, discussion of sports complex plans and approval of other municipal resolutions. Mayor Pro Tem Nick Prince chaired the meeting because Mayor Simon Wheaton-Smith was ill.
