The "AI Data Center Revolt Bus Tour," organized by the conservative group "Humans First," protested in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at a data center construction site on South Pine Street. Alex Lind of WYFF News 4 reported on the protest, where "Humans First" representatives argued for increased guardrails and safeguards for AI development, asserting that the technology is advancing faster than current laws can keep pace. They emphasized the importance of community involvement in project decisions, stating that citizens should have a say in their communities rather than corporations benefiting solely at taxpayers' expense.
Protesters raised concerns about the "Human Pine Project," alleging it would disrupt local air and water quality. The Southern Environmental Law Center and local residents have also pushed back against the project, particularly regarding its classification as a minor land development. This classification, according to the group, circumvented the typical public notices and hearings usually associated with larger developments, limiting resident input.
