The zoo had spearheaded public opposition against a proposed DC BLOX data center slated for an adjacent property, gathering over half a million signatures on a petition and mobilizing hundreds of residents to speak at Metro Planning Commission and Metro Council meetings.
Despite the new regulations, the zoo emphasized that its "work isn't over" and reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the data center from being built next to its facility. In a social media post, the zoo expressed hope that DC BLOX would acknowledge the community's "overwhelming message" and abandon its current plans, vowing to continue efforts to protect the zoo's animals and surrounding communities.
