Humboldt Mayor Arthur Boykin acknowledged the communication breakdown, taking responsibility for the lack of prior announcements to the community. He stated that improved communication could have prevented the spread of "misinformation" surrounding the development.
The Mayor sought to alleviate public concerns regarding potential negative impacts, specifically addressing fears of noise, groundwater contamination, and excessive energy consumption. Boykin asserted these would not be problems, explaining that the center utilizes an underutilized resource and will be a net positive for the city by increasing utility revenue. The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce announced that Mayor Boykin would answer questions at an upcoming board meeting, with a community meeting also planned to discuss the center's implications.
