White Rose Partners has withdrawn its zoning applications for Project Tomahawk, a proposed $580 million data center in Prosper, Texas. The withdrawal occurred just ahead of a scheduled town council vote, effectively ending the current iteration of the project.
The developer's decision followed a unanimous 7-0 vote by the Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission on September 1, which recommended denying the proposal. This recommendation came after significant community discussion and opposition, with residents and commissioners raising concerns about potential noise, the overall scope of the facility, increased electricity demand, and its impact on utility rates.
Project Tomahawk envisioned a 225,000-square-foot data center on approximately 37.3 acres, requiring a rezone to a Planned Development district and an amendment to Prosper's Future Land Use Plan. White Rose Partners had described the facility as smaller than typical hyperscale campuses and designed to mitigate environmental concerns, while also projecting it as a significant economic contributor through taxes and franchise fees, and creating over 500 construction jobs.
The Town of Prosper stated that the current proposal is now closed, and any revised plans would necessitate a new application, public notices, and another hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission.
