Days After The Lever Revealed His AI Investments, Mike Rogers Flipped On Data Centers
Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers has reversed his stance on data center development, now supporting a one-year statewide moratorium. This shift occurred after The Lever revealed his investments in companies potentially benefiting from AI-friendly policies and data center growth. Rogers advocates for stronger community control, protection against utility price hikes, and water preservation.
Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers has announced his support for a one-year statewide moratorium on new data center construction in Michigan, citing a need for stronger guardrails to protect community control, prevent utility price hikes, and safeguard water resources. Rogers, a former FBI agent and congressman, also called for the establishment of a fair and transparent approval process for these projects, though he does not support a full federal ban.
This policy reversal comes just days after The Lever reported on Rogers' and his wife Kristi Clemens Rogers' substantial investments, estimated between $1.7 million and $2.6 million, in companies poised to benefit from artificial intelligence development. Additionally, Rogers holds up to $250,000 in Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, where data centers constitute 29% of the portfolio. The couple also advises Forgepoint Capital, a venture capital firm with investments in numerous AI-focused companies.
