Bristol Innovation Park rezoning request withdrawn amid data center concerns

After months of community debate and concern regarding the potential for a data center, the rezoning request for the Bristol Innovation Park Detailed Planned Unit Development (DPUD) has been officially withdrawn. The project, which aimed to rezone 957 acres of annexed farmland in Bristol, Indiana, from agricultural to M1 light manufacturing use, was met with apprehension by many residents who feared it could pave the way for a data center.
Bristol Town Manager Mike Yoder clarified that while the proposed M1 zoning would allow for various uses including warehouses, laboratories, and potentially a data center, it did not constitute an immediate approval for a data center project. He explained that any future data center development would still require separate, significant studies and a detailed site plan, addressing concerns such as noise and water consumption. The withdrawal letter, sent by JPR on behalf of the property owners, did not specify the reasons for the petition's removal from consideration for the August 6, 2026, public hearing.
