The Marana Planning Commission unanimously approved proposed regulations for data centers, including noise controls, neighborhood-related land development provisions and decommissioning requirements. The rules come as one data center application has already been approved and a second has been submitted in Marana.

Some residents and council member-elect Jack McGuire criticized the lack of public visibility into how the ordinance was developed and argued that the proposed rules do not adequately address potential water, electricity and other community impacts. Planning commissioners said those concerns were considered in drafting the regulations, which will now be sent to the Marana Town Council for consideration.
