Dickson County Commission votes on data center moratorium
The Dickson County Commission has approved a six-month moratorium on data center development. The Dickson County Commission unanimously approved a six-month moratorium on new data center developments during its regular meeting on Monday night. The vote to add the moratorium to the agenda was held on June 22, with Commissioners Rusty Grove and Jody Britt absent for the respective votes.
Dickson County Mayor Bob Rial explained that the half-year pause is intended to allow the county to thoroughly study the potential impacts of data centers and to develop proper zoning regulations. He noted that the county's economic development and legal teams currently lack sufficient information to make informed decisions regarding data center eligibility.
Commissioner Danny Williams, who is also the Republican nominee for Dickson County mayor, made the motion for the moratorium. He stated that the ban will provide time to evaluate the impact on the community, review existing regulations, and implement strong zoning protections for property owners and the county's rural character, ensuring future development aligns with the vision of Dickson County residents.
