Pitt County commissioners begin process for possible data center moratorium
Pitt County commissioners unanimously voted to begin considering a one-year moratorium on new data center development after residents raised concerns about potential community impacts. County staff will draft an ordinance, with public hearings and a final vote expected in November.
Pitt County commissioners in North Carolina unanimously initiated the process for considering a one-year pause on new data center development. The action followed public concerns about the potential effects of data centers on local communities.
County staff are expected to prepare a draft moratorium ordinance by Oct. 30. Public hearings will precede a final vote, which commissioners expect to hold Nov. 16. Resident Don Cavalini supported the proposed pause and called for a permanent ban on certain types of development.
