DC Blox Backpedals on Scope of Palm Coast AI Data Center - WNDB
DC Blox issued a statement clarifying the scope of its Palm Coast AI data center after an executive suggested a much larger facility than approved. The company confirmed its intention to submit future permit applications for a second building, subject to city review. This clarification comes amidst public resistance and the possibility of a local moratorium on data center development.
DC Blox released a statement to clarify the planned scope of its AI data center in Palm Coast's Town Center, following confusion stemming from an executive's comments. William Thomson, the company's VP of Marketing and Product Management, had previously indicated on WNZF that DC Blox was pursuing a facility of approximately 100,000 square feet, which significantly exceeds the 33,760 square feet already approved for their project.
The company's statement explained that as customer demand grows, they anticipate submitting a future permit application for a second building, with the total campus capacity remaining below the initial 100,000 square foot estimate. DC Blox emphasized that any future permits would be subject to the City of Palm Coast's applicable review procedures and requirements. This clarification follows documented public resistance to data centers in the area and the possibility of a local moratorium on their development.
Palm Coast City Council member Ty Miller, who was present during Thomson's radio interview, stated he was hearing the 100,000 square foot estimate for the first time. The City of Palm Coast subsequently issued its own statement, reaffirming to residents that DC Blox was approved for no more than the 33,760 square feet. This effectively highlighted a discrepancy between the company's public statements and its approved project size.
DC Blox reiterated its commitment to transparency and community engagement, noting ongoing meetings with Palm Coast city officials since March 2023. The company expressed appreciation for the community's concerns and pride in its investment to bring critical global infrastructure to the region.
