Amazon Web Services to build third data center in Louisiana
Amazon Web Services is building a third data center in west Shreveport, Louisiana, complementing two others already under construction in Bossier and Caddo Parishes. This $6 billion investment will create 750 permanent jobs and includes commitments to environmental protection, water system upgrades, and hardening the electricity grid. Louisiana officials praise the deal as a win-win for the state and the company.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to construct a third data center in Louisiana, specifically at Resilient Technology Park in west Shreveport. This new facility adds to two other AWS data centers already underway in Bossier Parish near Benton and Caddo Parish near Blanchard. The combined investment for these three data centers totals approximately $6 billion, projected to create 750 permanent jobs and 2,200 temporary construction jobs.
Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois stated that Amazon's additional investment signifies the company's confidence in Louisiana's workforce and operational environment. She emphasized Amazon's pledges to protect natural resources and invest in critical infrastructure, including upgrades to water systems and strengthening the electrical grid. The facilities will primarily utilize air cooling, resorting to water cooling only when temperatures exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, Amazon plans to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure and is collaborating with SWEPCO to fully fund new energy infrastructure.
Bourgeois highlighted that these projects align with Louisiana's comprehensive strategy to responsibly support large-scale AI and digital infrastructure investments. She described the agreements as "win-win" for the state, its workers, its resources, and the companies it aims to attract.
