Aurora City Council refuses to reconsider vote for moratorium on data centers
The Aurora City Council voted 6-5 against reconsidering a moratorium that would pause approval of new data center applications while the city develops regulations. Mayor Mike Coffman said he plans to bring the measure back at the next council meeting, while residents voiced strong support for a moratorium and opposition to the proposed Trident data center.
The Aurora City Council rejected a motion to reconsider a data center moratorium in a 6-5 vote after a meeting that continued past midnight. The proposed pause would have halted approval of new data center applications while Aurora developed regulations, but the effort failed despite public support from residents and Mayor Mike Coffman.
Coffman said he changed his position after visiting the area near the proposed Trident data center, which Vantage hopes to build east of Green Valley Ranch near residential homes. He plans to introduce the same moratorium resolution at the next regular council meeting, although Trident would not be affected because the project has already received approval.
