CPS Energy and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) have assured the public that the Texas power grid is adequately managing current summertime demands, with no immediate plans for rate increases. An ERCOT spokesman attributed the grid's capacity to years of infrastructure upgrades and expanded transmission lines.
However, the rapid statewide growth of data centers is identified as a significant factor driving future electricity demand. In response, the Public Utility Commission of Texas is engaged in discussions to determine the funding mechanisms for the billions of dollars required for necessary new infrastructure to support this anticipated growth.
