Plans approved for another SpaceXAI data center in Southaven
The Southaven Board of Aldermen approved the design for a new 660,000 square foot data center for xAI at its growing campus. Additionally, Memphis Light Gas and Water reported two other data center expansions already approved in Memphis, with one requiring Tennessee Valley Authority approval for a 300-megawatt project.
The Southaven Board of Aldermen recently approved the design for a new 660,000 square foot data center facility for xAI. This development will expand the company's campus situated at Stateline and Goodman Roads in Southaven.
Further indicating an ongoing expansion in the Mid-South region, Doug McGowen, President of Memphis Light Gas and Water (MLGW), informed the city council about additional data center projects. He noted that two expansions have already been approved and were in progress since 2024.
Among these, a data center referred to as "5C" is slated to receive an additional 9 megawatts and is located at the old Friends Headquarters, expected to come online by year-end. Another project, identified as "CTC" or "Colossus" or "Dixie I" in the Pigeon Industrial Park, originally requested 300 megawatts, with 150 megawatts already being supplied. The remaining 150 megawatts were recently approved and are also expected by year-end. McGowen also mentioned another 300-megawatt project that will require approval from the Tennessee Valley Authority before proceeding.
