Meta and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, have unveiled a new "equitable superintelligence philosophy" to guide the company's community engagement, particularly in areas hosting its data centers. This includes the launch of a new "Future is for Everyone Fund," which will distribute approximately $1 billion to data center communities across the United States, with priorities set for local infrastructure like first responders and utilities. Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Meta has a significant data center presence, is expected to be a key beneficiary of this fund.
Demonstrating this new approach, Meta is funding the installation of 180 Gutter Bin stormwater filtration devices in Cheyenne's Crow Creek drainage. These devices, patented by Casper-based Frog Creek Partners, are designed to capture pollutants and improve local water quality before they reach the creek. This environmental initiative follows an incident where Crow Creek received bacteria-contaminated discharge from Cheyenne's wastewater treatment system, an issue linked to Meta's "Project Cosmo" data center project, which required the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities to drain local retention ponds.
Zuckerberg emphasized his belief that AI infrastructure, when developed with strong "Community Compacts" and local investments, can drive economic and population growth similar to historical innovations like railroads and broadband. He also reiterated Meta's commitment to making all its data centers water-positive by 2030.
