AI infrastructure company unveils plans for Callaway County data center

The video reports on Crusoe Energy's plans to build a multi-billion-dollar AI data center campus in a rural stretch of Country Road 240 in Callaway County, Missouri. This two-building campus would represent the largest private investment in the county's history, projected to create over 2,000 construction jobs and dozens of permanent positions, along with millions in new tax revenue. Crusoe stated that Callaway County was chosen due to existing power infrastructure.

The proposal, however, faces scrutiny from some local residents. During an open house, representatives from Crusoe addressed community questions regarding water use, noise, and power demand. While Crusoe claims its closed-loop cooling system uses significantly less water than older data centers, a point echoed by supporters, not all residents were convinced.

Susie Woods, a New Bloomfield resident, expressed strong opposition, particularly concerning the proposed 85% tax abatement for Crusoe, arguing that existing Callaway County businesses have paid full taxation. Other concerns included the data center's reliance on the power grid. Conversely, supporters like Seth Weinger see the project as a crucial "cog in helping build a bigger tax revenue for our county."

Callaway County leaders, including a person identified as Scott, indicated they are treating Crusoe's proposal like any other business development. They also revealed that the county is requesting Crusoe to contribute funding for new emergency operations and a 9-1-1 system if the project moves forward.
