City of Littleton considers six month moratorium on data centers
Littleton is considering a six-month moratorium on future data center projects while city staff study their potential land use, energy, water, noise, air quality and infrastructure impacts. No data center proposals have been filed, but some residents are urging strict limits or a complete prohibition.
The City of Littleton is considering a proposed six-month moratorium on future data center development. The ordinance would direct city staff to study potential impacts on land use, electricity demand, water-intensive cooling, noise, air quality, infrastructure, fiscal conditions and the local economy, as well as possible changes to the land-use code.
Denver7 reported that no data center proposals have been filed within Littleton. Residents Paul Bingham and Billy Gooch expressed concerns about land availability, water and power consumption, public subsidies and impacts on utility ratepayers, while Gooch said data centers could be developed responsibly with appropriate requirements. The ordinance’s first hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by a public hearing on Nov. 3 and a later final vote.
