Indiana Regulators Approve Battery Storage for Proposed Google Data Center Power Supply
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has approved Invenergy to proceed with the 130-megawatt Crosstrack battery energy storage project in Pike County, Indiana. This project is intended to be part of the power supply for Google's proposed data center in Morgan County. The broader proposal from AES to serve the 390-megawatt data center remains under IURC review amidst consumer concerns about costs.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has issued an order allowing Chicago-based Invenergy to proceed with the construction and operation of its 130-megawatt Crosstrack battery energy storage project in Pike County, Indiana. This battery project is a component of the planned power supply for a proposed 390-megawatt data center by Google in Morgan County.
Separately, a broader proposal from AES, also intended to serve the Google data center, remains under review by the IURC. Hearings for this proposal are scheduled for August 5-6. Consumer advocacy groups have expressed concerns regarding potential costs and ratepayer protections associated with the AES plan.
