Delhi Township considering data center resolution days after proposal made public
Delhi Township officials called a special meeting after backlash over a proposed $10 billion, 700-megawatt data center at the Holt Economic Opportunity Park. The township ended its membership in the Lansing Economic Area Partnership, saying officials had not been consulted and that no formal development proposal had been submitted.
The Lansing Economic Area Partnership and Lighthouse Sustainability unveiled a preliminary plan for a $10 billion, 700-megawatt data center on a 423-acre site at Holt Economic Opportunity Park in Delhi Township. The proposal could substantially increase township tax revenue and create a community fund, but no end user has been identified, and the property is not currently zoned for industrial use.
Opposition emerged shortly after the announcement, prompting Delhi Township officials to schedule a special meeting and withdraw from LEAP. Township spokesperson Tracy Miller said the board, planning commission and administration learned of the proposal through the media and had received no land-use application. The township already has a 12-month moratorium on data center development that is scheduled to expire in April 2027, while LEAP said it intended to gather public input through webinars before pursuing any formal project.
