Data center growth sparks community discussion
A community discussion at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame examined data center growth and its potential economic, infrastructure and community effects in Central Mississippi. Amazon highlighted possible partnerships with community colleges and education programs in communities where it operates data centers.
A Central Mississippi event titled "Data Centers: Myths Versus Realities" brought residents together to learn about data centers, why communities are considering them and how development could affect local infrastructure, economies and communities. The discussion was held at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson.
Amazon representatives said the company may offer free community college opportunities and partner with multiple colleges in areas where it has data centers. Organizers said the event was intended to distinguish facts from speculation as data center development expands in the region.
