Rock County staff committee advances data center resolutions to County Board
Rock County is advancing resolutions concerning data center development, including a proposal for an advisory committee, amidst ongoing public opposition. This comes as California-based developer Panattoni proposes a $1 billion "Project Cornmaze" data center campus in the Towns of Beloit and Turtle, a project that has already drawn significant community pushback at local meetings.
The Rock County Staff Committee has advanced five proposed resolutions concerning data center developments to the County Board for further consideration. One key proposal includes the creation of a 13-member county advisory committee dedicated to addressing issues related to data centers.
These governmental discussions follow significant public opposition to a potential $1 billion data center campus, dubbed "Project Cornmaze." The project, proposed by California-based developer Panattoni, is slated for development across the Towns of Beloit and Turtle within Rock County. A large crowd attended a Town of Beloit Board of Supervisors meeting in July to express concerns about the 2-million-square-foot facility, which is intended for a privately-owned quarry property. Panattoni recently presented an image of the prospective development at a public open house in Beloit.
