The Colorado Springs Planning Commission convened a special appeal hearing for "Project Taurus," a proposed data center development located near Garden of the Gods Road. Hundreds of residents and groups gathered at the Performing Arts Center to express their strong opposition to the project.
Ahead of the public comment section, the CEO of the company behind the project attempted to address key concerns. He stated that the data center would use a fixed 200,000 gallons of water for a closed-loop cooling system and would comply with city noise code at 45 decibels, based on an independent sound study. The CEO also offered a $1 million bond as a guarantee if these promises were not met.
However, residents were not swayed by these assurances. They argued that the project needs to be halted to allow for deeper environmental studies, citing discrepancies between the initial project plan submitted to the city and subsequent amendments. One resident expressed concerns about the long-term impact of noise, water, and other unknown implications on the Garden of the Gods area and the wider community.
