Twin Township Zoning Commission approves data center regulatory framework | WHIO-TV
The Twin Township Zoning Commission in Darke County approved a proposed nine-page regulatory framework for data centers covering size, capacity, noise, water usage and power supply. Residents raised concerns about property values, health impacts and unclear decision-making authority, while township trustees are expected to vote on the regulations at their next meeting.
The Twin Township Zoning Commission approved a proposed framework defining and regulating data centers after a meeting attended by more than 50 residents. The nine-page proposal addresses facility size and capacity, noise, water consumption, power supply and other requirements. Zoning inspector Kurt Lambert answered questions from residents, including Tracy Lur, who said the potential effects on property values and health remained unclear.
The commission said the vote was only an initial step and that Twin Township trustees must still approve the regulations at a meeting scheduled for Monday. Residents also questioned how the township’s process would interact with the Village of Arcanum, which must develop its own data center regulations. If trustees approve the framework, the township would have to wait 30 days before a data center moratorium could be considered.
