The Waupaca County Planning and Zoning Committee conducted a public hearing attended by over 200 individuals to review amendments to the county's zoning regulations. These proposed changes specifically address data centers, solar farms, battery storage facilities, and co-digesters. During the hearing, more than 30 residents voiced their questions and concerns regarding potential impacts on water quality, local governance, environmental sustainability, and future development within the county.
Following extensive public commentary, the committee proceeded to unanimously approve updated zoning language pertaining to solar farms and battery storage facilities. Additionally, new definitions and regulatory language specifically for data centers were approved, integrating them into the county's existing zoning framework.
A decision regarding the co-digester portion of the ordinance was deferred. The committee announced that it requires more time for review and will revisit this segment of the ordinance at its next scheduled meeting on December 3rd, when community members will have another opportunity to provide input.
