The City of La Porte, Indiana, is actively preparing for a substantial increase in its population due to the upcoming construction of a Microsoft data center facility. Bert Cook, Executive Director of the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, informed the city's Board of Public Works & Safety that the project is expected to bring an average of 2,000 to 4,000 construction workers daily over a period of up to ten years.

A significant portion of these workers is anticipated to come from outside the area, prompting the city to engage local businesses, including restaurants and hotels, to ready them for the economic impact and increased demand for services.

The expansive data center project will encompass more than a dozen buildings across approximately 1,800 acres of land, which was previously farmland and annexed by the city at the property owners' request. Construction of the buildings is slated to commence in the very near future.
