Pine Island Residents React to Settlement Clearing Path for Google Data Center Project
Pine Island residents expressed mixed views about Google’s planned Project Skyway data center after the City Council approved a settlement ending a legal challenge. The settlement allows a new state environmental review, with a 90-day public comment period before the city considers additional protections.
Pine Island residents remain divided over Google’s planned Project Skyway data center following the City Council’s approval of a settlement resolving a lawsuit over the project. Some residents continue to raise concerns about environmental impacts and the adequacy of information provided, while others support allowing the project to proceed.
The settlement requires a new state environmental review, which Minnesota agencies will conduct as developers submit additional paperwork. The public will have 90 days to comment, and the city will later determine whether added protections are needed. Mayor Brandi Veith Staloch said the agreement would help the project move forward responsibly.
