Hill County residents support Commissioners Court amid lawsuit over data center moratorium
Hill County residents are supporting their Commissioners Court in the face of a lawsuit filed by data center developer RCM Hill. The lawsuit challenges a recently approved one-year moratorium on data center construction in the county. RCM Hill claims the moratorium, which halted their planned data center near Hillsborough, is illegal and unconstitutional.
Hill County residents have expressed strong support for their County Commissioners Court amidst a new lawsuit filed by data center developer RCM Hill. The company is suing the county after commissioners approved a one-year moratorium on all data center construction, which halts RCM Hill's plans to build a data center near Hillsborough. RCM Hill asserts that it has invested approximately one million dollars in acquiring rights for the project and argues that the commissioners knew the moratorium was illegal and unconstitutional when they approved it.
During a special meeting held by the commissioners to discuss the lawsuit, constituents rallied with overwhelming encouragement. Residents likened the commissioners to "soldiers at the Alamo" and urged those commissioners who voted against the moratorium to align with the majority. RCM Hill's lawyers declined to comment on the ongoing legal action when contacted by the news outlet.
