2026 Voters Guide: Deva Simmons running for US House District 18
Deva Simmons, a no-party-affiliation candidate for Florida’s 18th Congressional District, supports a moratorium on new large-scale data centers. She says development should pause until impacts on electricity rates, water use, infrastructure and grid reliability are understood, with data centers paying their share of related costs.
Deva Simmons, a candidate for U.S. House District 18 in Florida, said she supports a moratorium on new large-scale data centers. She called for a comprehensive assessment of their effects on electricity rates, water consumption, infrastructure and grid reliability before additional construction is allowed.
Simmons also said data centers should bear the additional infrastructure and energy costs they create rather than shifting those expenses to residents. Her position was included in the Orlando Sentinel’s 2026 voters guide, which compiles responses from Central Florida candidates.
